The Top & bottom box is an indicator that groups a question's answer choices into Favorable, Neutral, and Unfavorable categories, then automatically calculates the rate of positive and negative responses. This way, you get the data already aggregated directly in the Responses tab of your questionnaire.

The configuration is available for scale, multiple choice, and matrix question types.

How does it work?

Each answer choice must be classified into one of three categories:

  • πŸ‘ Favorable: the positive answer choices, which make up the Top box.
  • Neutral: the choices that are counted in neither the Top box nor the Bottom box.
  • πŸ‘Ž Unfavorable: the negative answer choices, which make up the Bottom box.

You can classify only Favorable choices to track the positive response rate (Top box), only Unfavorable choices to track the negative response rate (Bottom box), or both to track the positive and negative rates at the same time.

Each rate corresponds to the number of responses in a category, divided by the total number of responses to the question. The results are displayed in the Responses tab for each question that has been configured.

  • Top box = sum of responses classified as Favorable Γ· total responses
  • Bottom box = sum of responses classified as Unfavorable Γ· total responses

For example, on a satisfaction scale where you classified "Very satisfied" and "Satisfied" as Favorable: if 50 of 100 respondents answered "Very satisfied" and 25 answered "Satisfied," the Top box is (50 + 25) Γ· 100 = 75%. If 10 respondents chose a choice classified as Unfavorable, the Bottom box is 10 Γ· 100 = 10%.
