Checklist to use when editing a survey

2 min read

When editing a survey, be sure to check the following to avoid introducing errors.

Adding answer choices

When adding one or more answer choices to an existing question, be sure to check the following:

  • If logics apply to the question, be sure to adapt them if necessary.
  • If codes are associated with the question and its answer choices, be sure to associate a code with the new choice(s) created.
  • If your survey is available in other languages, be sure to translate the newly added content.

⚠️
To preserve the integrity of your data, please avoid renaming answer choices and potentially changing their general meaning. In this case, we also recommend that you hide the existing choice and create a new one.

Adding questions

Creating a new question

When creating a new question, please check the following:

  • Make sure to position the question at the right place
  • If logics apply to your survey, make sure that the positioning of this new question does not negatively impact it
  • If your survey is available in other languages, be sure to translate any added content

Duplicating a question

When you duplicate a question, please check the following:

Translation

If your survey is translated, please adapt the translation each time you edit or add content.

When adding or editing the content of your survey, active translations are automatically switched off. To reactivate them:

  • Go to the Survey languages tab
  • Translate the added/edited content
  • Re-enable translation

Deleting a question or an answer choice

If you delete a question or answer choice from a survey that has already collected responses, all data associated with the question or choice will be lost.

For answer choices, we recommend hiding the answer choice rather than deleting it. This way, the answer choice will no longer be visible to respondents, but you will retain all associated data.
